Social Networking has become one of the most popular activities on the web today. Every minute people all over the world are logging on to different sites and sharing information with friends all over the world. Never before has there been such an easy and cheap way to communicate with people; the majority of the websites are actually free to use. Now most people are familiar with social networking on the social side, but there are a lot of people using these sites to improve their business and make money.

In this article I would like to give make a list of a 7 of the most popular social networking sites available on the web and briefly describe their purpose.

1. Facebook – Facebook is without a doubt the most used social networking site on the web today; in fact it’s the 3 most used website on the web today. There are millions of users all over the world in which you can share information with in the form of video, picture, and text.

2. MySpace – MySpace is a very popular site that is similar to Facebook. You can share information about yourself, your interests, and your business with people all over the world to see.

3. YouTube – YouTube specializes in sharing videos. This website is great because the Google loves to rand YouTube videos high within their rankings.

4. Twitter – This is one of the fastest growing websites on the web today. Basically, it’s function is for people to share quick little updates of what’s going on in their lives.

5. Squidoo – Squidoo is almost like a blogging website where you can create personal profiles of whatever you’d like and make them available for the world to see. Instead of calling these profiles blogs they call them “lens.”

6. Skype – This is one of my personal favorite websites. Skype allows you to talk with people all over the world for free. I’m getting to the point where I’m using my phone less and Skype more.

7. Xanga – This is another website that you can create a blog, share videos, pictures, text, etx.

Now obviously these 7 websites aren’t the only social networking sites available, but they are my favorite sites because I’ve seen the most success in my business through these sites. The key to having success on these types of sites is to just befriend people and not necessarily worry about advertising your products. Of course you want to have information about you website and your business within your profile but don’t necessarily go out and advertise. Once you start to build relationships with people they’ll get curious and that’s when they’ll look at your profile and see your business.
