Adobe Dreamweaver is the starting point of study for almost all web designers. It’s reputed to be the favourite environment for web development on the planet. We’d also suggest that you learn all about the entire Adobe Web Creative Suite, which incorporates Flash and Action Script, in order to facilitate Dreamweaver professionally as a web designer. These skills can take you on to becoming an Adobe Certified Expert or Adobe Certified Professional (ACE or ACP).
Building websites is only the first aspect of the skills necessary for today’s web technicians. It’s a good idea to look for a program that includes important features like PHP, HTML, MySQL, E-Commerce and SEO (Search Engine Optimisation,) to enable you to appreciate how to maintain content, drive traffic and work with dynamic database-driven web-sites.
Your training program should always include the current Microsoft (or any other key organisation’s) authorised simulation materials and exam preparation packages. Because many IT examination boards come from the United States, it’s essential to understand how exam questions will be phrased and formatted. ‘Exam Guarantees’ are often bundled with training offers – this always means exams have to be paid for upfront, at the very beginning of your studies. But before you get taken in by this so-called guarantee, think about this:
In this day and age, we are a little more ‘marketing-savvy’ – and usually we grasp that we are actually being charged for it (it’s not a freebie because they like us so much!) We all want to pass first time. Going for exams one by one and paying for them just before taking them has a marked effect on pass-rates – you take it seriously and are aware of the costs involved.
Hold on to your money and pay for the exam when you take the exam, and keep hold of your own money. You also get more choice of where you do your exams – so you can find somewhere local. Paying upfront for examinations (which also includes interest if you’ve taken out a loan) is madness. It’s not your job to boost the training company’s account with additional funds only to please their Bank Manager! Some will be pinning their hopes on the fact that you won’t get round to taking them – then they’ll keep the extra money. Many training companies will require you to sit pre-tests and prohibit you from re-taking an exam until you’ve demonstrated an excellent ability to pass – which makes an ‘Exam Guarantee’ frankly useless.
Exams taken at local centres are approximately 112 pounds in the UK. What’s the point of paying huge charges for ‘Exam Guarantees’ (often covertly rolled into the cost of the course) – when good quality study materials, the proper support and exam preparation systems and a dose of commitment and effort are what’s required.
Many folks don’t really get what IT means. It’s stimulating, innovative, and means you’re a part of the huge progress of technology that will impact the whole world for generations to come. We’re only just starting to understand how all this change will affect us. The way we interact with the world will be massively affected by computers and the web.
If money is way up on your goal sheet, then you’ll welcome the news that the income on average of a typical IT worker is much better than salaries in the rest of the economy. The requirement for properly certified IT professionals is guaranteed for many years to come, thanks to the substantial expansion in IT dependency in commerce and the very large skills gap that we still have.
Be on the lookout that any accreditations you’re studying for are commercially relevant and are the most recent versions. Training companies own certificates are not normally useful in gaining employment. If the accreditation doesn’t feature a big-hitter like Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe or CompTIA, then you may discover it could have been a waste of time and effort – as no-one will have heard of it.
How the program is actually delivered to you is often missed by many students. How is the courseware broken down? And in what order and at what speed is it delivered? The majority of training companies will set up a program typically taking 1-3 years, and drop-ship the materials to you piecemeal as you finish each section. If you think this sound logical, then consider this: Often, the staged breakdown insisted on by the company won’t suit you. It may be difficult to get through each and every section at the speed required?
The ideal solution is to have all your study materials delivered to your home before you even start; the entire thing! This way, nothing can happen down the line which could affect your progress.
